Day 27- What I eat in a day
I am certainly eating to fuel my way across the US.
Day 27 was a relatively short day at only 133km/ 4.30 hour ride time, and flat, so I didn’t have to worry too much about food.
Breakfast is important, but given some of the ‘middle of nowhere’ locations we’ve stayed in, has usually been the worst meal of the day. Occasionally taken at nearby diners (if they open at 6:30am!) such as this photo from earlier in the trip showing a massive plate of French toast with Huckleberry sauce. 😋
This is a typical side of the road snack stop, usually taken every 30-40km, so although i do take gels/ bars on route on bigger days, I’m usually snacking often enough at stops not to carry much.
9am- Snack 1
- Energy waffle
- Peanut M&Ms
-Candied dried fruit
10:40am- Snack 2
- Energy waffle
- Nut bar
- Banana
- Can of coke
The Trek team have prepared brilliant lunches every day. Not always in the most picturesque locations (although often so), but always very welcome. Prepared from fresh every day in the van. 👏
12:15- Lunch
- Chicken stew with beans, sweet potato, beetroot, crisps & bread.
- Fruit
- Cookies x2
- Dr Pepper x2
Throughout day
- 3x water bottles with energy supplement.
2:45pm- Post ride
- Post ride shake, 3x carb/ 1x protein
Evening meal, well, this is a lottery. Too much average American fried food, but when we have flexibility can find some great pasta, Mexican, steak houses ect that allow for for nice meals and good carb loading.
6:30pm- Dinner
- Cobb salad
- Rice bowl with chicken
- Some left over fries
- 1 pint Merzen
Hope this gives a good feel. Don’t forget, im eating to ride big distances, so don’t be greedy if you’re not doing the same 😂
